Go on a Road Trip!
Malaysia is full of beautiful cities and sights just waiting to be explored! A road trip is ideal if you have nothing to do for an entire day or am searching for things to do in Malaysia. Or if you wish to take things slow, you could take a few days to really take in the sights and experiences.
Kuala Lumpur
1. Bukit Tinggi – Fraser’s Hill
If you live in Kuala Lumpur, escape from the concrete jungle, take a breather and visit the beautiful Colmar Tropicale in Bukit Tinggi. The French-themed resort is modelled after the 18th-century city of Colmar in Alsace. This resort makes anyone feel like they’re in a completely different country, without even stepping foot on a plane.
After taking a picture against the beautiful backdrop for your Instagram account, head on over to Fraser’s Hill to become one with nature and leave the chaotic streets of Kuala Lumpur behind you. Embark on their nature paths, such as the Pine Tree Trail and Bishop Trail and try spotting migratory birds. You could also try outdoor activities like archery and horse-riding in The Paddock. Its strong colonial history is evident in the architecture of the place. It makes for a good change of environment!

Selangor
2. Batu Caves
In Kuala Lumpur, take a break from the bustling city and enjoy the beautiful creations of nature at the famous Batu Caves.
A limestone hill with a series of caves, the Batu Cave is a famous Hindu cave temple dedicated to Lord Murugan. To reach the caves, you can take a direct train from KL Central and proceed to climb up 272 steep steps. Visiting the Batu Caves is sure to get your blood moving and is a good change from lounging on the sofa and eating chips.
3. Fireflies tour at Kuala Selangor
If you are looking for something romantic to do with your special someone, how about taking a fireflies tour and star gaze at the same time? Kuala Selangor, a few hours’ drive from Kuala Lumpur, is famous for their firefly tours along the Selangor River. From there, you can sign up for a Firefly tour or hire a boatman to take you down the river, making sure you’ll definitely have things to do in Malaysia.
Johor Bahru
4. Austin Heights Water & Adventure Park
Recently opened in late 2015, Austin Heights Water & Adventure Park is both a water park and an adventure park. Austin Heights Water & Adventure Park has something for all ages to enjoy and is suitable for the whole family. The water park has classic water rides like the lazy pool, wave pool, and Splash World for the young ones, to exhilarating rides like Yellow Wall and Uphill Battle with high speeds and high plunges.
Its adventure park includes fun and thrilling activities like Zip lines, and many high element activities like Rope Trapeze and Jamor crossing, where participants attempt to cross a distance with only ropes and planks (wearing all safety harnesses and equipment of course).

5. Glasshouse tea room
Instead of going to a mall or a boring restaurant for a meal, have lunch or high-tea at the picturesque Glasshouse Tea room. The café is elaborately decorated, and you can see outside thanks to the glass windows, and glass roofs. It also features an extensive collection of teacups. They mainly serve teas, cakes, desserts, and some savoury bites. The elegant café is good if you wish to have a slow-paced relaxing day. What’s more, there’s if you need a good cup of coffee, just hop on next door, there’s another café, Just Want Coffee, that sells amazing coffee.
Adventuring For the Outdoorsy Person
6. Plentong Circuit — Go-Karting!
Plentong Circuit is the place to go when you’re in search of a thrill rather than the usual things to do in Malaysia. At Plentong circuit, you get to drive up to 100km/hr or more and race your friends like real race car drivers. Channel your inner Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel and race your friends down the challenging course comprising of sharp turns and bends.
Sabah
7. Hike Mount Kinabalu
Do you think you’re up for the challenge? Conquer Malaysia’s tallest mountain located in Sabah. Just a word of caution, this 4,095 metres tall mountain is not an easy feat. It requires months of training and preparation to ascend the mountain. You should only take on this challenge if you’ve trekked a few mountains before, or a seasoned trekker. The climb takes 2 days, and it is highly recommended that you hire a guide for you and your group so you don’t get terribly lost on the way up.
The view from the top of the mountain is sure to take your breath away.
Langkawi
8. Skytrex Adventure
Langkawi is an archipelago of 104 islands in the Andaman Sea, and is around 30km off the mainland coast of Malaysia. Langkawi is well known for its beautiful beaches and crystal clear waters, and is a popular tourist location.
Out of Langkawi’s many sights and attractions, the Skytrex Adventure is a must try in our list of things to do in Malaysia! It fills you with adrenaline and keeps your blood pumping and you zip line through the forest and get past obstacles. Not to mention, you are also metres off the ground.
Pahang
9. Rainbow Waterfall
Another sight that takes your breath away. Located in Sungai Lembing, Pahang, the Rainbow Waterfall is a popular tourist sight, and for good reason. At certain times of the day, usually in the mornings, a rainbow will be formed at the base of the waterfall, creating a magnificent view.
To get to this hidden waterfall, however, you will require a tour guide, and be prepared to set off early in the morning before the sun rises to trek through the forest. You will be treated to a beautiful sunrise as well as a rainbow that looks almost magical. Quickly snap a picture because the rainbow will disappear after a while. You can also feel free to take a quick dip in the waterfall to cool off!
