If you’re like me, you love travelling but hate spending money. We want to visit beautiful places far, far away but our bank balances won’t let us.

Well, what if I said you could experience true natural beauty without breaking the bank?

Here are eight Instagram-worthy places in JB that’ll give you a taste of Europe:

1. RIDERS LODGE RESORT

While this looks like a majestic manor in the English Countryside, it’s actually a resort in the Malaysian town of Kulai.

Take an early morning walk along lush lawns and observe horses grazing in the verdant fields for a relaxing experience of nature.

You can even learn to ride a horse or join guided trails into a tropical plantation.

Address: Inside the Legends Golf and Country Resort, Lot 1302 Kebun Sedenak, 81000 Kulai, Johor, Malaysia

2. UK FARM AGRO RESORT

Want to experience the farm life? Head down to UK Farm Agro Resort, just a one-and-a-half-hour drive from Singapore.

Sip your morning coffee while watching these sheep and goats roam about the vast green fields.

And if you’re looking for the perfect Instagram picture, well, you’re not going to get a more picturesque backdrop than this lavender field.

Address: Plot 8, Project Pertanian Moden Kluang, KM13 Jalan Batu Pahat, 86000 Kluang, Johor, Malaysia

3.MOUNT AUSTIN

Also known as the little Paris of Johor Bahru, Mount Austin is filled with charming cafes inspired by the street cafes in Paris.

Visit Tropique Café & Restauranta Wes-Anderson-inspired cafe with numerous spots for that perfect Instagram picture.

Or you could visit Cafe de Flore, named after a popular French coffeehouse. Its white exterior is adorned with flowers and leaves, great for photo ops and a steaming cup of joe.

Getting to Mount Austin: Hop on a 20-minute cab ride after crossing Malaysian customs.

4. CANOPY TRIBES

If you’re an outdoors person who loves sleeping amongst the trees and waking up to insects crawling down your pants, then you should head to Canopy Tribes.

You can experience ‘glamping’, which is basically glamorous camping.

Or enjoy sweet slumber on nature’s bed.

There are also outdoor activities like hiking and barbecues for visitors.

Address: 7815, Jln Lombong, Batu 8, 81900 Kota Tinggi, Johor, Malaysia

5. KOTA TINGGI FIREFLY PARK

While you’re at the Canopy Tribes, head over to the Kota Tinggi Firefly Park and take the river cruise where you can watch fireflies light up the trees in the dark of night.

A pretty good place to propose too.

Address: Jalan Kota Tinggi, 81900 Kota Tinggi, Johor, Malaysia

6. GUNUNG LEDANG (MOUNT OPHIR)

You can also climb up the highest mountain in Johor, Gunung Ledang.

Get there early so you can catch the glorious sunrise at the peak of the mountain.

You may even be able to touch the clouds if you’re lucky.

You’ll have to register with the national park first, though, because the government has restricted the number of people allowed to trek up each day.

Getting there: It takes about two and a half hours to travel from Singapore. Take a bus to Gunung Ledang via Tangkak, and another bus to Gunung Ledang National Park.

7. RAWA ISLAND

And of course, no travel list would be complete without a scenic beach with white sand and clear blue waters.

In addition to being a lovely place to relax, Rawa Island has two resorts. You can literally jump into the sea from your doorstep.

You can also go for a short hike up the Hilltop Jungle Tracking, where a magnificent view of the surrounding islands in Mersing awaits at the peak.

Getting there: Take a three-hour coach ride from Singapore to Mersing jetting, then take a ferry to Rawa Island.

8. TASIK BIRU, KANGKAR PULAI (BLUE LAKE SERI ALAM)

You can also visit an abandoned granite quarry in Johor.

It looks like something out of a post-apocalyptic movie and is great for photo ops.

If you head a little deeper, you’ll see this gorgeous blue lake in this mini canyon.
