Right.

Let’s get down to business. I’ve drawn some of World Tourism Organisation’s learnings into the mix because credibility. Accompanied by my own experiences (and sick deduction skillz) and possibly the travelling habits of the peeps over at ShopBack, we can conclude some destinations that’ll keep on slapping you through the Instagram pictures of your travelling friends. In 2016, we are betting that these destinations will trend.

1. Cappadocia, Turkey

The UNWTO reported that Spain, China, France, Italy and Turkey were leading the tourist troop in 2014. In 2015, you’d have seen much of these countries appearing in your feeds over and over again. So I don’t think this trend will decelerate, let alone come to a halt.

Cappadocia is one destination Singaporeans are wanderlusting over. I mean, with the captivating views of the plains and hot air balloon rides that’ll inspire you for life, how can anyone not love Cappadocia?

Recommended: Head to the Göreme Open-air Museum. You’ve not seen paintings on the wall this vivid and telling until you’ve been here.

2. Paris, France

Another one placed high in UNWTO’s list is France and really, no one is surprised. Paris is a city that’s on everyone’s visit list just because it’s one of those destinations that you need to step foot on before kicking the bucket. In addition, it is a place marinated by notions of love. Also, Eiffel Tower.

You’re going to be seeing Paris in your social media feeds even more this year!

3. Kakslauttanen, Finland

Ok, we can’t be sure that Finland itself will trend this year (as with the countries mentioned in this list, to begin with), but one thing we believe will become immensely popular is the topic of Aurora Borealis. Last year, we’ve heard rumours of the northern lights dimming and we won’t be able to see it again (not after a long time, at least).

So it might not just be Finland that will trend – Northern Canada, Sweden, Norway and Scotland are some places that might be popular for those seeking to visually pleasure themselves.

4. Anywhere in Thailand

As Singaporeans, Thailand is (and will forever be) a destination that’s always in our peripheral thoughts when we plan a trip beyond our shores. Phuket is lined by beautiful beaches so that’s the place where everyone starts when looking for a beachy paradise. For Singaporeans, however, we know Thailand best – we’ll be heading straight to Koh Pha-Ngan, Koh Samui, Koh Tao, Koh Lipe and Koh Samet.

With the beaches out of the way, Bangkok is another part of Thailand that’s within the Singaporean’s popular Thai visits. Shopping galore!

5. Beijing, China

Yes, China is actually part of the countries that are leading the tourism game. Sure, the smog will blind tourists’ view of the sky, but hey, the heavens are on the ground level – Temple Of Heaven.

With the Great Wall and Forbidden City still open, China will always be up there with France and Turkey (and also in our IG feeds).

6. Rome, Italy

Italy’s another destination that’s trending back in 2014 and 2015. Yes, we believe it’ll still stay in trend till the end of 2016. With the Colosseum and Pantheon standing strong, you’ll be able to feel the romanticism of the ancients emanating out from the city!

7. Tokyo, Japan

With the rise of Instagram, Tokyo is one destination that IGphiles are flocking to, just to get a piece of insta-glory. So why are IGers flying to Tokyo? It’s because Tokyo is a frontrunner for everything street fashion! Shibuya has everything young’uns need – Harajuku. Alternatively, take a train on the Fukutoshin Line and you’ll end up in Shinjuku in about half an hour later. Take more awesome pictures in Shinjuku and your whole year’s supply of Instagram pictures is settled.

It’s not just Tokyo that’s on the rise, actually. Osaka, Sapporo and Kyoto aren’t lagging behind at all. In fact, according to a report drawn from data by TripAdvisor, these three places are popular amongst travellers between 1st January to 31st March 2016. Expect to see cool sceneries of Japan in your feeds soon!

8. Melbourne, Australia

I don’t know about you, but pictures of Brighton Beach and the colourful bathing boxes have really been on the rounds in Facebook and Instagram lately, and I strongly believe it’s not just me – everyone’s seeing these bathing boxes in their feed.

Yes, for us Singaporeans, it seems Melbourne might be the first choice for those heading to the Oceania. Or Sydney. All we know is, Perth isn’t really in a Singaporean’s travelling list (and we’d encourage you to visit Perth at least once!).

9. Dubai, UAE

Dubai is a destination for those wanting to live it large and modern. It features the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, a man-made offshore island called Atlantis, The Palm; and other luxuriousness known only by the Arabs. With promises of temporary grandeur while you’re in Dubai’s premises, Singaporeans can’t pass up on the opportunity to fly over if there’s an inkling of chance!

Also, remember to take a 4×4 vehicle to the desert!

10. Seoul, South Korea

Just like Japan, South Korea (Seoul, specifically) is another popular destination for Singaporeans in the period from 1st January to 31st March 2016. Good for the soul, they say – and we get it. We know why. It’s the affordable fashion and beauty products that make it great for young people to refresh their wardrobe and make-up palette.

11. Boracay, The Philippines

A small island off the coast of Manila, Boracay is a place for beach enthusiasts. Bali and the Thai beaches would have been a second home for these fanatics. Thus, Boracay is one great place if you’re looking for a beach Southeast Asia that’s pristine and beautiful but not cliche (because you want to boast about your travels to all your friends).
